Hotel Catedral is a boutique hotel in the Historic Center of Mexico City, at Guatemala 16, steps from the Zócalo and the Metropolitan Cathedral. The property operates two towers—Torre Catedral and Torre Pirámide—and preserves a circular pre-Hispanic temple dedicated to Ehécatl-Quetzalcoatl beneath the lobby, documented with Mexico’s INAH.

Torre Catedral is the historic tower facing the Metropolitan Cathedral. Torre Pirámide rises above the temple: from its lobby, with glass floors, you can see the circular remains, and inside is Jorge Cejudo’s mural “Going Up and Down Is How We Meet.” Across both towers, the hotel offers 13 room categories and around 185 rooms, from standard rooms to suites with a private terrace and cathedral views.

The Temple of Ehécatl-Quetzalcóatl was built by the Mexica between approximately 1400 and 1500 AD, as part of the sacred precinct of Tenochtitlan. Its circular plan is characteristic of sanctuaries dedicated to Ehécatl, god of the wind. It was rediscovered during excavation work and documented by archaeologists from Mexico’s National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH). On the same property, INAH and the Museo del Templo Mayor manage an archaeological space with its own visiting rules.

The hotel is home to Restaurante Catedral, serving Mexican and international cuisine; Terraza Bar, with cathedral views; Buffet Luxe for breakfast; and Café Catedral in the lobby. 13 Ácatl, a restaurant overlooking the temple, is opening soon. The hotel also runs an art program, featuring Jorge Cejudo’s mural and Emma Pinto’s photographic gallery “The City in Photographs.”
