October and November 2026: the busiest weekend of the year
Formula 1, October 30 to November 1. The Mexico City Grand Prix runs at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. From the Historic Center you can get there by Metro (Line 2 to Chabacano, then Line 9 to Ciudad Deportiva or Velódromo). Details are in our F1 hotel guide.
Day of the Dead Grand Parade, Saturday, October 31. It starts at the Puerta de los Leones in Chapultepec, runs along Paseo de la Reforma and ends at the Zócalo, 1 to 2 minutes from the hotel. It's free to watch.
Day of the Dead, November 1 and 2. Altars, sugar skulls and celebrations across the city, with the Historic Center at the heart of it. It overlaps with the F1 weekend, so book early. More ideas in our Day of the Dead hotel by the Zócalo guide.
Revolution Day. The official public holiday is Monday, November 16; the historic date is November 20.
Corona Capital, November 20 to 22. The music festival returns to Curva 4 at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, reached by the same Metro route as F1.
December and January: holiday season
Our Lady of Guadalupe, December 12. Millions of pilgrims arrive at the Basilica of Guadalupe in the days before. Expect heavier traffic in the north of the city.
Posadas, Christmas and New Year's. From December 16 to 24 there are posadas, and the Historic Center fills with holiday decorations. For those dates see our Christmas and New Year hotel by the Zócalo guide.
Three Kings' Day, January 6. Families share the rosca de reyes; many downtown bakeries sell it from late December.
February and March 2027: art, music and Holy Week
Zona Maco, February 3 to 7. One of Latin America's most important contemporary art fairs sets up at Centro Citibanamex, and galleries across the city schedule openings around it.
Vive Latino, March 13 and 14. The Spanish-language rock and alternative music festival takes place at Estadio GNP Seguros. The lineup hasn't been announced yet.
Holy Week, March 21 to 28. Palm Sunday is the 21st and Easter Sunday the 28th. The Passion play in Iztapalapa, with its main moment on Good Friday, March 26, is one of the most attended in Mexico. It's a national holiday period, so book ahead.
September 2027: Independence Day
The Grito, September 15. The ceremony takes place in the Zócalo, in front of the National Palace, followed by the military parade the next morning. Staying 1 to 2 minutes away, you can walk there and back. See our Independence Day hotel by the Zócalo guide.
How to plan a stay around an event
- Book early. During F1, Day of the Dead and Independence Day, downtown hotels fill up weeks ahead.
- Choose location over proximity to the venue. The Autódromo and stadiums are far from everything else. Staying in the Historic Center keeps you near the Metro and within walking distance of museums, restaurants and celebrations.
- Take the Metro on event days. Traffic around venues is heavy; the Metro is usually faster.
